High school and university students from Nimba and Grand Bassa counties gathered for an inspiring career fair organized by ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML). Held simultaneously in the coastal city of Buchanan and the mining town of Yekepa, the event was a highlight of the company’s Employee Volunteer Week, aligning with the celebration of International Volunteer Day.

The career fair sought to bridge the gap between students and potential career opportunities in the mining and industrial sectors, offering a platform for exploration, learning, and professional networking. The initiative aimed to equip students with valuable insights into diverse career pathways available within AML and the broader industry, while also encouraging them to envision brighter futures.

2024 Employee Volunteer Week Chair Lois Abudu underscored AML’s commitment to youth empowerment. “This career fair is an opportunity for students to explore their interests, ask questions, and understand the skills needed to succeed in the workforce,” Abudu said. She emphasized the importance of early exposure to industries, noting that it helps students make informed decisions about their future careers.

The event featured a series of interactive workshops, engaging panel discussions, and informational booths. These sessions showcased the various departments within AML, from operations and safety to environmental management and finance. Students had the opportunity to interact directly with professionals, gaining firsthand knowledge about the skills, qualifications, and educational backgrounds required to thrive in the mining and industrial fields.

The event also spotlighted AML’s broader commitment to community engagement and development. By prioritizing youth-focused initiatives like this career fair, the company reaffirmed its dedication to fostering the next generation of Liberian professionals.
