Unlocking Community Power: IREDD Hosts Groundbreaking Meeting on Revenue Sharing Act

Project Inception Meeting to Promote Understanding of the Revenue Sharing Act of 2021 and its Regulations and Advocate for the Enactment of the Ministry of Local Government Bill.

May 16, 2024 – Tomorrow, May 17, the Institute for Research and Democratic Development (IREDD) will conduct a pivotal project inception meeting at A’ La Lagune Conference Hall, beginning at 10:30 AM. This significant event will bring together major stakeholders and policymakers to rally support for implementing a crucial project funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The project ‘Advocacy campaign for the implementation of the Revenue Sharing Act, approval of the Revenue Sharing Act Regulation, and the enactment of the Ministry of Local Government Bill’ aims to enhance citizens’ understanding of the Revenue Sharing Act of 2021, explain its benefits and regulations, and advocate for the enactment of the Ministry of Local Government Bill. By increasing public awareness and comprehension of these legislative measures, the project seeks to foster greater Community engagement, dialogues, and support for local governance initiatives.

Key stakeholders, including members of the legislature, government officials, youth groups, educational institutions, the media, and representatives from various civil society organizations, will participate in the meeting. Their involvement is crucial to the inclusive citizens’ participation and ownership of government decision-making processes.

The project concept underscores the importance of bringing close to the people these legislative frameworks as the surest way to improve transparency, accountability, participation, and service delivery. Through collaborative efforts, this initiative aspires to build a more informed citizenry capable of engaging to gain a deeper understanding of the benefit of the Revenue Sharing Act of 2021 and to join a coalition of civil society networks to advocate for the enactment of the Ministry of Local Government Bill.

Attendees can look forward to a comprehensive agenda that includes presentations, discussions, and strategic action plan sessions aimed at solidifying the project’s framework and operational strategy.
