Monrovia, Liberia – In a bid to raise awareness and combat the rising threat of drug abuse among young people, Restoring HOPE Foundation International, in partnership with the Liberia National Police (LNP) under the leadership of Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), will host a one-day football tournament themed “Say No To Drugs” on April 19, 2025, at the Chuboi Field on Old Road, Monrovia.

The initiative seeks to harness the power of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and behavioral change while educating participants and attendees on the dangers of substance abuse. Organizers believe the event will provide a healthy alternative to risky behaviors, as well as offer resources to help young people make better life choices.

“Sports has the power to inspire and unite, and we want to use that energy to engage our youth meaningfully,” said Mama V. Morris, Secretary General of Restoring HOPE Foundation International. “This tournament is not just about football—it’s about building a generation that is informed, responsible, and determined to stay away from drugs.”

The tournament will feature several community-based football teams competing for the championship, while the event grounds will host interactive booths, education sessions, and drug prevention talks. Organizations, including UN Women, UNICEF, Plan International, and the UNDP, are expected to participate and lend their voices in support of the campaign.

CEO of the Foundation, Amb. Maxson Kpakio expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of the LNP, the Director General of the LDEA, and the Union of Liberian Organizations in the United Kingdom (ULO-UK) for their collaboration and support. “This initiative reflects a shared commitment to ending the scourge of drug addiction in Liberia,” Kpakio said. “Together, we are making a statement that the future of our youth matters.”

Community leaders, local celebrities, and influencers are also expected to attend, bringing visibility to the importance of drug awareness, education, and rehabilitation. The event is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to participate in building a drug-free Liberia.

Restoring HOPE Foundation International remains steadfast in its mission to uplift individuals and communities through programs focused on education, health, and youth development. The upcoming tournament is part of the Foundation’s broader efforts to create lasting social impact across Liberia.
