Monrovia – Liberia: The Executives of the Liberty Party and Alternative National Congress have distanced themselves from the upcoming CPP Turnover Ceremony that is expected to be held at the headquarters of the Unity Party on Friday, October 15, 2021. In a letter addressed to Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, Political Leader of the Liberty Party, the Executive Committee Members of the Liberty Party said they are shocked to see flyers going viral on social media that the LP will be turning over CPP Leadership to the Unity Party.

The Liberty Party Executives said Article 9.3(3) of the CPP Framework Document mandates the setting up of a transition committee that shall work for more than two weeks to plan for and execute the transition activities before the official turning over ceremony. According to their letter which is in possession of this paper said, the turnover is done in such a well planned and organized manner to allow for the turning over of relevant documents, removing CPP billboard and flag to the party taking over, etc.

“When LP was taking over from the Alternative National Congress (ANC), the process was initiated by the setting up of a transition committee that worked for more than two weeks to plan for and execute the transition activities before the official turnover ceremony,” the letter quoted.

The LP’s executives also furthered in their communication addressed to their political leader, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence that the official turnover ceremony marking the transition is held at the headquarters of the constituent party that is relinquishing authority and not at the headquarters of the incoming constituent party.

The further quoted: “Madam PL, it was against the above tradition and procedures that the LP/CPP Secretary General wrote the UP on the 13th of September 2021, through its Secretary-General, informing of LP’s readiness to transition and requesting the commencement of transition meetings. The UP replied and said that on the issue of the transition of authority the party (UP) will work with you (Madam PL) to inform us on the above tradition and procedures, ignoring the fact that the transition is between parties and not individuals.”

Moreover, the LP’s executives said their communication to the UP then in September 13, 2021 stated clearly that the turnover ceremony will be the final part of the transition and, as such, the date for this ceremony needed to be discussed and agreed upon at the transition meeting. But sadly, executive committee members of the Liberty Party and the Alternative National Congress are claiming that they are shocked that all these processes were not followed but yet the Unity Party is parading with flyers, caps and t-shirts in various communities selling them to partisans, well-wishers and sympathizers of the CPP to attend a purported turnover ceremony at UP headquarters on Friday, October 15, 2021.

According to supporters of LP and ANC, these kind of attitudes on the part of UP grossly undermine the spirit and intent of the collaboration – and threaten the very existence of the CPP moving into 2023.

The National Executive Committee Members of the Liberty Party said it is quit astonishing that contrary to established tradition and protocols, there has been no transition committee set up as requested by the LP but their Political Leader, Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence and the UP have scheduled the turning over program to be held at the UP headquarters.

“Sadly Madam PL, these are the facts that contradict the tradition and procedures for the transition of authority. It is our hope that you will correct this action and engage the LP NEC to discuss the LP turnover in lieu of moving on with your plan as indicated in the UP in its response to the LP communication on transition,” the LP executives asserted.

According to critical minds within the CPP from all the four constituent political parties who were sitting on the fence and watching the recent drama of claims and counter claims about the alterations of the Collaborating Political Parties Framework Document and the allegation thrown at Mr. Alexander Cummings told the Democracy Watch News that they are now becoming to think twice about Nyonblee, Dillon, Urey and Boakai conspiracy to cast a dark cloud on  Cummings’ enviable reputation he has built for himself more than 40 years ago.

“Why will Nyonblee, in flagrant and blatant violations of established tradition and the CPP Framework Document, will clandestinely elect to be in bed with Urey and Boakai to hold a turning over ceremony of CPP Leadership to the Unity Party without the knowledge and representation of all the constituent political parties? This singular act of the part of Senator Lawrence only convinces us more of her distasteful vice presidential slot she desperately craves from Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai to the extent she goes at any length to violate the CPP FA and as well impugn the repetition of others in the collaboration,” say supporters and sympathizers of the CPP.
