In a tight battle at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex, the Lonestar of Liberia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Tunisian national team. The match which attracted Liberians left Liberia in third place in their qualifying zone, with a total of seven points.
The loss to Tunisia was a disappointment for the Lonestar, who courageously fought on home soil but came up short against their formidable opponents. Tunisia goal scored in the early first half sealed Liberia outcome and positioned them behind Tunisia who now leads the group with a strong performance. The league table also shows Namibia, Malawi, Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome trailing behind them.
Despite the set back, fans gathered in mass numbers to cheer on the Lonestar, praising the players for their excellent performance.
The supporters however expressed their admiration for the team’s effort and dedication.
“They played with heart, and that means a lot to us,” said one passionate fan. “Now we need to channel that energy into the next match against Sao Tome.”
Coach Thomas Kojo received a mix of commendation and constructive feedback from the fans. While the support was evident, many urged him to implement more tactical strategies, particularly in their attacking plays, to capitalize on scoring opportunities in future games.
“We need to find ways to break down defensesh better, we know the talent is there, but we must be more aggressive in the final third,” another fan noted.
Looking ahead, the Lonestar will face Sao Tome on Monday, March 24, 2025, also at the SKD. Fans are optimistic as they prepare for this crucial encounter, hoping to secure vital points to boost their standing in the qualification process.
