ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has donated $10,000 to support the upcoming Liberia Marathon, scheduled for November 24, 2024.
This contribution marks AML’s first installment in supporting the Liberia Marathon Trust this year, providing a financial lift as preparations for the race ramp up. The 2024 event will be the fifth edition of the marathon, with organizers planning to expand its scope and add fresh elements to enhance the experience while building on the successes of past events.
The Liberia Marathon has grown into a widely inclusive event, bringing together Liberians from all walks of life. AML has consistently backed the race in previous years, and its latest donation reflects its continued commitment to promoting the event.
With the race just weeks away, the Liberia Marathon Trust has been actively seeking additional sponsorships to ensure this year’s event surpasses expectations. AML’s contribution, presented over the weekend, underscores its dedication to corporate social responsibility.
During the check presentation ceremony, AML’s Head of Sustainability and External Relations, Marcus Wleh, emphasized the company’s belief in the transformative power of youth and sports. “We believe in youth and sports development because it breaks barriers and unites communities,” Wleh remarked. “Our support today is aimed at strengthening the public’s confidence in the Liberia Marathon Trust.”
In response, Chris D. Cooper, Chair of the Liberia Marathon Trust, expressed heartfelt thanks for AML’s generous donation. Cooper anticipates a record turnout this year, with more than 2,000 participants, including wheelchair athletes, aged 16 and up, set to take part.
