Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The Government of Liberia has dismissed recent allegations branding the country as anti-Pan-Africanist, calling the claims “desperate and misleading.” During the Ministry of Information’s regular Tuesday press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah rejected what he termed a calculated conspiracy by the opposition to tarnish Liberia’s image as the nation pursues key diplomatic objectives.

Minister Piah responded to media reports insinuating that Liberia is working against Pan-African ideals, describing the narrative as “illogical and mysterious.” He attributed the claims to what he called a “hostile, desperate, and prostituted opposition” seeking to derail national unity and international credibility. “These people are interested in blackening the image of our republic at this critical time,” Piah said, adding, “But we will not allow them to succeed.”

Central to this rebuttal is Liberia’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Piah argued that the allegations are part of a smear effort designed to weaken Liberia’s global profile and sabotage its candidacy by undermining its Pan-African credentials. He reaffirmed that Liberia remains a strong defender of African solidarity and is actively working to deepen ties with regional allies.

In support of this position, Piah pointed to Liberia’s expanding relationship with Burkina Faso. He referenced multiple high-level visits by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, including a recent trip accompanied by a security delegation. These engagements have culminated in the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Diplomatic Cooperation, which is currently in its final stages. The MOU includes provisions for coordinated security actions and is being implemented through a joint working section established by both governments.

Piah noted that a government-produced video from Burkina Faso clearly shows Liberia’s Foreign Minister in collaboration with regional and international actors, demonstrating Liberia’s commitment to African unity. He questioned the credibility of critics who continue to allege that Liberia is aligned with anti-African interests. “To suggest that this very country—so involved with our sisterly nation of Burkina Faso—is anti-African is nothing short of slanderous,” he asserted.

In a stern warning to opposition voices, the Information Minister urged them to cease what he called deceptive attempts to portray Liberia as betraying African causes. He stressed that such narratives not only misrepresent the government’s position but also risk misleading the broader African public. Piah also referenced Liberia’s involvement in a regional railway initiative aimed at linking the country with Guinea, describing it as further proof of Liberia’s commitment to African-led development and regional cooperation.

The government’s strong defense comes at a pivotal moment in Liberia’s diplomatic engagements, as it strives to reinforce its role as a reliable African partner and advocate for continental unity on the global stage.
