The wife of exiled Liberian advocate Richard Ricardo Scott, Mrs. Melody Willie Scott, reportedly died in a car accident on May 10, 2022, according to police pronouncement. But according to eye-witnesses who were on the accident scene told this newspaper that when the accident occurred, Mrs. Scott was never injured but was taken hurriedly by a few unknown men in an official government vehicle. After two days, the police announced that Mrs. Melody Willie Scott died in a tragic motor accident in Margibi County, Liberia, a report that several eye-witnesses believe is unthinkable and maliciously conjectured by the police for a lady who was never injured at all in the car accident but was quickly taken by unknown men to hear she died in an accident.
“This is far from imagination and we can never believe this cooked-up story by the police because we were on the scene when the accident took place and Mrs. Scott was never injured in any form and manner. Those unknown men who took her and placed her in a government vehicle may have been her assassins”, eye-witnesses told Democracy Watch.
The Democracy Watch has gathered through its investigation from unimpeachable sources that the late Mrs. Scott’s death came in the wake of a vicious search of her husband, Mr. Richard Scott, by a state security network and hired assassins for his role played in the former ruling Unity Party, now the major opposition party to the current ruling Coalition for Democratic Change headed by President George Manneh Weah. Mrs. Scott’s husband was allegedly attacked by members of the so-called Sabu Unit of Coalition for Democratic Change a week before the October 2017 presidential and general elections whilst he was on his way home according to information gathered.
It can be recalled that Mr. Richard Scott, the husband of the deceased Melody Scott, whilst in Liberia, was one of the staunchest and vocal critics of the current government headed by George Weah. In his struggle for the advancement of Liberia under the current administration, he made several radio talk show appearances exposing the gross incompetence and fiscal impropriety of the government. This, Democracy Watch has gathered, that this didn’t go down well with some supporters of the administration – who publicly threatened on some radio talk shows to go after his life viciously and ruthlessly.
According to a report which our paper verified and corroborated, Mr. Scott and his late wife Melody Scott, life and the lives of his family were been viciously pursued everywhere since 2018 and allegedly by dreadful death squad of the ruling party – the Coalition for Democratic Change which forcefully pushed him out of the country into exile for the safety of his life.
Democracy Watch has gathered that after Mr. Richard Scott absconded Liberia for fear of his life and meeting his untimely demise, his wife’s and children’s lives also came into harm’s way with agents allegedly acting on behalf of their bosses in government.
Mr. Scott is not the lone person or critic since the early beginnings of the government that had fled the country on account of fear of his life. Several journalists, politicians, and democracy activists have all fled the country alleging that hired assassins of the government and state-sponsored terrorist networks were after their lives to have them murdered. It can be recalled in 2020 October, four auditors of the government of Liberia and other critics died under mysterious circumstances with people pointing fingers at the government for being behind their suspicious deaths.
It was reported that after Mr. Scott fled the country into a foreign domicile, his wife, the deceased Mrs. Melody Scott and her children have been in hiding after receiving several death threats for their relationship with Mr. Scott who ran away from Liberia.
According to news reports, before the death of Mrs. Melody Scott, she and her children first fled to Beleyaleh forest in Gbapolu County and later Fissibu in Lofa County, and finally Margibi.
We have been reliably informed that the deceased at a certain point got disappointed and frustrated that she continued to live in the village and could not come to the city where life was easy for her. It is against this backdrop, according to what we gathered, the late Mrs. Scott couldn’t bear the difficulty she went through and so she decided to put in for divorce to live her life in peace. When Democracy Watch interviewed some family members, this is what she had to say: “Every day, I have been harassed and threatened through telephone calls and text messages to disclose the whereabouts of my husband, Mr. Richard Scott. Some government officials have said to me that I know where my husband is in hiding and if I don’t show him, my life and the lives of my children will be taken away. I cannot live in peace anymore. I left Monrovia and am now in hiding in a faraway village miles away from the country’s capital. I can’t bear this burden anymore and I am considering the option of divorcing and coming home to live my life in peace”, the late Mrs. Scott told our newspaper.
According to information, when Mrs. Melody Scott put in for divorce, she had been leaving her children and coming to Monrovia and other nearby counties without the consent of her husband’s friends who is also in a similar situation, and other relatives after she was advised to remain in the village.
Our paper has learned when she had left the village leaving the kids behind, she was seen in a car accident along Margibi County – a few miles from Monrovia.
“When the accident occurred in Margibi, Mrs. Scott came out sustaining no injury at all but to our almost surprise, we see a few unknown men who took her into an official government vehicle and took her away. It was after two days that we learned with great dismay that a lady who didn’t sustain any injury in a tragic motor accident was pronounced dead by the police”, this was according to an eye-witness who preferred not to be named.
Since the death of Mrs. Scott, her family members have been asking the police to investigate and provide detailed reports on the accident and who took her to the hospital and report from the hospital that pronounced her dead. However, when this paper contacted the police for a report from the accident scene and the hospital, the police Inspector General declined to comment on the matter during a press conference and said they will reach us in due course.
Family members of the deceased Mrs. Scott have been pointing accusing fingers at the government for murdering their sister, daughter, friend, and inlaw (Mrs. Melody Scott) and decided to cover up by providing erroneous information on the death of their passing relative. According to them, since the day Mr. Scott has been vocally critical in exposing the excesses of the government, his life and the life of his wife including their kids have been in danger and harm’s way– causing him to abscond the country whilst his wife and children went into hiding in a faraway village.
