Monrovia – The ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy (AMLTA) has graduated its third batch of vocational students after three years of rigorous training. The graduation ceremony, held on November 30, 2024, at the African Bible College University auditorium, saw 56 students proudly receive diplomas in various technical disciplines.
The graduates included 14 each in Diesel Mechanics and Electrical Studies, 10 in Fitting, 10 in Boilermaking, and seven who completed advanced courses in Fitting & Turning and Instrumentation. The event was marked by songs of celebration and spirited dancing, reflecting the students’ sense of achievement.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Education, Nyekeh Y. Forkpa, lauded ArcelorMittal Liberia for its commitment to technical vocational education. He emphasized the importance of innovation and adaptability in pursuing successful careers.
“Embrace new tools and technologies in your fields to ensure your skills remain relevant,” Forkpa urged the graduates, adding that Liberia needs their contributions to its development. He also encouraged the graduates to inspire more women to enroll in technical training programs, challenging traditional gender roles in the vocational sector.
ArcelorMittal Liberia CEO Michiel Vandermerwe highlighted the academy’s critical role in equipping Liberians with the skills needed for the company’s expanding operations, including its newly built processing concentrator. “This training is not just about jobs today; it’s about preparing you for the opportunities of tomorrow,” he stated.
